Today, we gather to honor a woman whose life was marked by resilience, quiet strength, and small but meaningful acts of love. She faced many challenges along the way, yet she continued to show her care in the ways she could, through the memories she created, the traditions she passed on, and the moments of joy she shared with those around her.
Some of my fondest memories come from the simple times we spent together like trick-or-treating when I was young, a tradition she made special enough that Halloween remains one of my favorite days of the year. Those moments reflected her warmth and her desire to brighten our lives, even when circumstances were difficult.
In her later years, she continued to try, in her own ways, to stay connected and be present with her family. We saw her effort, her determination, and the courage it took to keep going. Illness can reshape a person’s journey, but it never erased her intention to love and support her family as best as she could.
I am grateful for the apologies she offered in recent times not because they were expected, but because they showed her heart. They reflected her wish for peace, for understanding, and for healing. Today, we honor that wish. We honor her humanity, her struggles, and the strength it took to face them. And we offer forgiveness, compassion, and gratitude in return.
She also gave us qualities we will proudly carry forward: her perseverance, her loyalty to family, and her ability to find light even when life was heavy. These gifts stay with us. They shape who we are and how we will remember her.
As we say goodbye, we release her from worry, from illness, and from every weight she carried. We imagine her now reunited with loved ones who went before her, laughing, smiling, and finding comfort in their presence. And yes, we hope she’s enjoying a warm meal and those KFC mashed potatoes she always loved.
We send her onward with love. We will remember her kindness, her intentions, and the best parts of who she was. And we will continue to honor her by living with compassion, strength, and generosity.
May she be at peace, surrounded by family, joy, and light. And may her memory always be a blessing.
We love you.
