Patricia E. McMurray, a communications expert in the energy field, died of a heart attack she suffered while swimming on Sunday. She was 74 years old and lived in Rockville, MD.
Born in Pasadena, CA, Ms. McMurray graduated from Connecticut College and received a doctorate in English from the University of Pennsylvania.
Ms. McMurray was most recently a communications manager at the Department of Energy and enjoyed an extensive career writing and editing. She volunteered with a number of organizations, including the National Capital Area Chapter of the US Association of Energy Economics. Earlier, she worked in radio, at both The Voice of America and National Public Radio.
A lover of art and literature, Ms. McMurray was a docent at the National Gallery of Art and hosted annual readings of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. She was also a member of 4th Presbyterian Church.
She leaves her son, Bill; her grandchildren Peter, Will, Molly, and Lucy of Washington, D.C.; and her sister, Mary of Portland, OR.
