Gunther Reiner Sirtautas, 67, of Rockville, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly at his childhood home on January 5, 2026.
Born on February 25, 1958 in Wiesenthal, Germany to the late Severinas and Irma Sirtautas. The family moved to United States when he was a child. Hard work was instilled in him at a early age. At the age of 11 he started working for EU Services where he continued to work his whole life. He was proud to be a dedicated employee. His coworkers were more than friends, they were family to him. At the age of 50 he over came and survived two Brain Aneurysms plus complications from the surgery. He went back to work for a bit after the surgeries but then was convinced into early retirement. More recently he over came Prostate Cancer. He lived life to the fullest and did what made him happy always with a Miller Highlife and a pack of Marlboro Reds in his black T-Shirt Pocket. He loved working on cars, fishing and lending a helping hand where needed. He loved his children and grandkids deeply. He always showed up when it counted and would always say yes when invited to any of his kids or grandchildren’s sporting events. He never missed a dance recital and always had a smile on his face. His funny German sayings and carefree sprit will be deeply missed. He never took anything in life to serious and always wanted to please his children. These last few years he enjoyed car shows on television, watching his daily soap show “General Hospital” and playing games on his phone. He never turned down a good meal or a morning coffee or a country drive.
He is survived by his two daughters Ashley Murphy (Justin), Tiffany Sirtautas (Marcus) and Grandchildren Ryker, Bristol, Knox, Oaklin and Brody. Nephew Joey and Niece Roberta plus long time friend Jimmy and neighbors Lander and Burriss family. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Bruno, Carl and Peter.
A celebration of life will be held at Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ on February 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM. There will be a visitation the same day at the same location at 1pm. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, endless dad jokes, and the way he made everyone feel like family. He lived a full life marked by love, hard work, and quiet kindness. We will miss him every day.
