Genoveva "Beba" Vasquez, born on October 30, 1930, in Yauco, Puerto Rico, left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her when she peacefully passed away on August 18, 2025, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Beba was a radiant soul, embodying an unforgettable spirit full of life, laughter, and an unmatched spark. Joyful and endlessly positive, she greeted everyone with a warm smile and a heartfelt "God bless you," a phrase she lived by every single day.

Her unwavering faith in God served as the foundation of her strength—unshakable, deep, and ever-present. Beba devoted herself to the church, finding comfort and purpose in prayer, service, and community. A true fighter and tireless worker, she was strong and tenacious, grounded by her belief that God guided her through every challenge life presented.

A life filled with love, Beba poured herself into her family, cooking delicious meals with passion, crafting beautiful creations, and lovingly sewing every stitch of garments for those she cherished. Whether she was knitting, solving crossword puzzles, or whipping up a meal for a crowd, she approached each task with gratitude, elevating the ordinary into a celebration. Her laughter was infectious, and her sharp wit could light up any room, making everyone feel loved and accepted.

Her children were her world, and her family meant everything to her. Beba's legacy is beautifully woven into the lives of her living family members: Isabel Arroyo (daughter), Angel Arroyo (son), Carmen Arroyo (daughter), Luis Santiago (son), Wilfredo Arroyo (son), Cindy Arroyo (daughter-in-law), Carlos Vasquez (son), and Kathleen Stearn (daughter-in-law). Her love extended to her grandchildren, Doris Dhima (granddaughter), Peter Dhima (grandson-in-law), Damaris Rivera (granddaughter), Brian Rivera (grandson-in-law), Wilfredo Rivera (grandson), Marifely Berrios (granddaughter-in-law), Alicia Arroyo (granddaughter), Erica Arroyo (granddaughter), Nina Arroyo-Sanchez (granddaughter), Vincent Vasquez (grandson), and Nicholas Curtis (grandson). Additionally, she took great joy in the accomplishments of her great-grandchildren, Cristian Rivera (great-grandson), Noralys Camacho (great-granddaughter-in-law), Natalie Jimenez (great-granddaughter), Stella Dhima (great-granddaughter), John Dhima (great-grandson), Damian Arroyo (great-grandson), Daniela Arroyo-Sanchez (great-granddaughter), Gabriella Arroyo-Sanchez (great-granddaughter), and her great-great-granddaughter, Eliza Rivera.

Beba's story was one of strength and determination; moving from Puerto Rico to Brooklyn in 1961, she built a life marked by hard work, perseverance, and immeasurable love. Her pride was boundless when she became the rock for all her children under one roof, a testament to her relentless spirit and devotion. She constantly sought a better life for her family, enabling her children and grandchildren to flourish. Her quest for knowledge was endless; even later in life, she embraced new experiences, demonstrating her commitment to growth and resilience.

While she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Juan Carlos "Toto" Vasquez, and her cherished daughter, Myriam Arroyo, the love and teachings she left behind will continue to inspire her family and friends. Calista Armstrong, a close friend, along with the many whose lives Beba touched, will forever hold her memory dear.

A force of nature, Beba was bold, loving, faith-filled, and unforgettable. Her laughter remains in the echoes of family gatherings, her spirit dances in the hearts of her loved ones, and her love for God will continue to inspire all who had the honor of sharing life with her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the joy she brought to this world.
