A remembrance celebration will be held at 6:00 pm, Friday, June 12, 2026 at The National Press Club, 529 14th St NW, Washington, DC.
David Murray Jackson was born in Orangeburg, SC to the late James & Sue Jackson. David graduated in 1977 from Eastside High School in Greenville, SC and then went on to attend Winthrop University majoring in History. He continued his education at Northwestern University where he received his Masters Degree in Journalism.
David was a passionate reporter for over 44 years. He began his career at the Times & Democrat in Orangeburg, SC He also worked for the Augusta Chronicle in Georgia, The Dallas Morning News in Texas, and finished out his career in Washington, DC with the USA Today. David was known and loved for his dedication to his craft and his willingness to always put in the hours and effort to make sure the story was correct.
Beyond journalism, David was an avid traveler. He took advantage of his retirement spending the last 18 months all over the world with friends and family. He loved sporting events, and traveled to many major golf championships, NCAA basketball tournaments, college football, NHL and MLB games.
David would often make trips back to his family in South Carolina, where he loved his southern cooking especially fried chicken, BBQ and the Waffle House. No trip was complete without going to see his beloved Gamecocks play.
He is survived by his brothers, James Jackson Jr. and Dwight Jackson. His nephew Benjamin Jackson and wife Jill of Irmo, SC and their children Noah, Owen, Wyatt, and Webb; niece, Katy Handell and husband Kevin of Lexington, SC and their children Mary Scott and Jackson. .
