Charles Floto, age 78, a member of Christ Church, Washington Parish, for nearly 40 years, passed away on April 3 from complications of Covid. Charles was born in New Haven, CT, graduated from Swarthmore College with a BA in Philosophy, served in the army as a radio repair specialist during the Vietnam War, published Sextant magazine for people interested in building their own computers, and was employed by the Library of Congress for many years prior to his retirement in 2016. Charles became active in politics as a fervent supporter of Barry Goldwater and remained true to conservative values throughout his life. Charles was always a loyal and active member of those communities he chose to be a part of. He demonstrated that showing up and participating was a force multiplier for creating positive impact. He valued people and ideas over things/stuff. Charles was kind, welcoming, and gentle, never grandiose or judgmental in manner or speech, but thoughtful and impactful in conversation. Charles had an incredibly nimble mind, able to synthesize reams of information and talk about complex matters in simple, understandable terms. Charles is survived by a brother, Paul, nephew Charles, niece Elizabeth, and several cousins including Melanie Pardes, who remained in contact with him for many years.
