On May 16, 2022, Alexandra (“Alex”) Poe Kincannon, 53 years of age, died peacefully and surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 25, 1969, to L. Claire Kincannon and the late Charles Kincannon in Washington, D.C., Alex was a renaissance woman: a potter, scholar and writer, Peace Corps volunteer, PhD in cognitive psychology, active in her synagogue, her children’s schools, and involved in the community in so many ways. She was a positive and active force for good in every venue in which she labored. Without a doubt, the role she cherished most was being Mom to her adoring children: Helen Kate Moorehead, Patrick Charles Moorehead, and Aidan Emmanuel Moorehead.
Beloved wife of Paul Moorehead, dear sister of Indya Kincannon, Alex is also missed by her sisters in law Elaine Wilhelm and Julie Moorehead, brothers in law Ben Barton and Raymond Wilhelm, her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends and neighbors.
Throughout her life Alex was an intrepid adventurer, pushing boundaries as a teenager, exploring new intellectual territory as a student at St. John's College, traveling across the globe with the family in tow, always up for trying new things, from hot air balloons to flying trapeze. And wherever Alex went, she was the candle that brought light and warmth to all around her.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Tifereth-Israel Congregation of Washington, D.C., and the Shepherd’s Table of Silver Spring, MD
