Mary Elliott Edens

Mary Frances (Fran) Edens passed away on September 7, 2022 at the age of 94. She was a high school biology teacher in Roxboro, NC for 32 years and was a recipient of the State of North Carolina Teacher of the Year. She graduated from Milligan College and Duke University. She retired to Georgetown, SC for 29 years and then to Gaithersburg, Maryland for 7 years. She was the wife of the late Jim Edens and mother to three children. She is survived by daughter Julie Misner, son Mike Edens with Mary Beth Edens and daughter Mandy Edens with Stephanie Semmer. Fran was “Gran” to five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her immensely. She had a great love of the outdoors and could often be found walking her dog, playing tennis, biking, going to the beach and was always ready for a picnic. She was a supreme dog lover. Any dog in her care had won the lottery. Most any time you could find her listening to Frank Sinatra or Michael Bublé while dancing. Her favorite food group was chocolate!

The family will conduct a private memorial service.
