Janice Maria Williams Brito

Janice Williams Brito was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and cherished member of the community.

Janice Maria Paulk was born July 27, 1948, in New York, NY to Frances Paulk and John Raby. As a young child, Janice and her mother moved to Philadelphia, which is where she spent her childhood and adolescence years. Janice attended Saint Francis de Sales Catholic School for Girls in Philadelphia in which she participated in the school and church choir.

Janice met Clarence S. Williams, who attended Saint Francis de Sales Catholic School for Boys which was the beginning of their relationship. Janice married Clarence on October 3,1965 and became a Navy wife. This union welcomed four beautiful children, Angela Marie, Maria Bernadette, Clarence Sinclair II, and Jawanna Lynn. Janice and Clarence enjoyed many activities together. They enjoyed dancing the most, all types of styles to include the hustle and swing dancing. The family lived and moved to many naval center cities, finally settling down in Virginia Beach, VA.

Janice was the only child of her mother Frances until Janice’s mother later in her adult life and birthed her younger sister, Jodie. Janice loved and treasured her younger sister.

Janice was an amazing mother who loved dancing and playing cards games (rummy, blackjack, hearts, crazy eights, old maid, and spades) and playing other games with her children. A few of the games were, hopscotch, two-and-four-square. Janice was the best on the pogo stick. Janice was an outstanding world class Double Dutch rope jumper who outlasted and out-jump, any of the children in the neighborhood. Janice was an expert “jacks player”, in which her children quickly found out by making the mistake of allowing her to go first, where she swiftly went from winning one game to ten games straight without any of her children getting a turn to play. This forever changed the way the children played the game of jacks with her. The children voted that she had to go last.

Later in life, Janice married Mario A. Brito in November of 1989 she became Navy. They lived in Virginia Beach, VA together. They enjoyed many activities like crabbing, fishing, road trips and walks on the beach. They enjoyed spending time and playing games with the family at their home. Janice took pleasure in decorating their home for each season and holiday. She served and sang at New Life Baptist Church, which were essential to her walk with God.

Janice worked in various customer service positions along the way. She ultimately ended her career at Household Finance. She often shared her financial knowledge with her children. In her personally time, Janice enjoyed drawing, painting, staying fit, and playing racquetball.

Janice was always committed to her family and her faith. Janice was raised in the Catholic religion and along her faith journey, accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She found solace and comfort in her faith in God throughout her life. She was a prayer warrior and engaged in intercessory prayer for others and for her children which encouraged her children as a Christian role model. Janice was the epitome of strength, love, and wisdom. Janice’s determination, and resilience guided her through life. She was known for her caring nature, her unwavering strength, and her insightful wisdom.

In her final days, Janice’s spirit remained strong. She faced each day with courage and grace, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Janice Maria Paulk Williams Brito passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, February 10, 2024.
