James Llewellyn Burridge (86)
James Llewellyn Burridge passed peacefully at his home in Washington, D.C. on June 11, 2021.
James was a hard worker, family man, and quiet champion of equality and justice.
He started working shining shoes as a young boy in Casper, Wyoming. He left his beloved Wyoming to join the Army. He came to Washington in 1959 where he worked on Capitol Hill for over 35 years in a variety of positions. He joined the U.S. Capitol Police Force, worked on the Senate Floor as special assistant to Senator Gale McGee, was a consultant for FMC, and then started his public relations firm. He met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Taylor, in 1970. James proudly graduated from American University in 1994.
Throughout his accomplishments, his greatest aspiration was to be the most unconditionally loving father and grandfather. In the hearts of his daughters and grandchildren, he well surpassed that dream.
James was a selfless and loyal man with strong values and a true gift for storytelling. He connected with people on a deep level, and easily made them laugh. He especially loved children and retained a joy for life throughout his years.
He is survived by his daughter Alice, son-in-law Mark Davis, and their children, Connor and Lance. He is also survived by his daughter Claire, his daughter Sarah and her son James. He leaves behind his brothers Tom and Mike, his sisters Sarah and Katherine Suzanne, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
