Dean was also a driver education instructor for many years where he continued to joyfully interact with students outside of the school classroom.

In addition to his teaching, he was a devoted father, grandfather, community volunteer, and golf and car enthusiast. After his retirement, he moved to Calabash, North Carolina, where he enjoyed the mild weather, golf, volunteering at the local hospital, and frequent visits from friends and family from up North.
