Constance Virginia Giles

Constance Virginia Giles of Gaithersburg, Maryland entered eternal life on August 12th, 2016 with her loving husband by her side. She was born on June 29th, 1951 and was the daughter of the late Arthur L. Smith, Sr., and Artharine D. Smith. She was the valedictorian of Toulminville High School where she graduated in 1969. She continued her education track and received her PhD from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. “Connie,” as she was affectionately known, was loved and respected by everyone she encountered. She had a hunger for education and shared that will all those around her. She was the Executive Director of Curriculum and Institutional Research at The Bullis School where she spread joy and love throughout the school community.

Connie was a very devoted wife and mother and doted on her son. She saw him as her greatest accomplishment of all. Connie will be missed for her laughter, counseling, zest for life, and beautiful smile. Her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the multitude of people that loved her sweet and calming spirit. We will celebrate her life through emulation of her strength and courage and will never forget the mark she made on this world.

Connie is survived by her devoted husband Anthony W. Giles, her loving son, Ian Scott-Ivie Giles, her siblings Edith D. Hunter, Arthur L. (Ruth) Smith, Jr., Karen A. (Michael) Hawthorne, Harold J. (Yvette) Smith, Kathryn F. Smith, Randolph L. Smith, Vincent R. (India) Smith, Adrianne E. Smith, and Christopher D. Smith, two special nieces, Thyser J. Curry, and Christina M. Hunter godson, Corey Dante’ Jones. She was the center of her family and was adored by uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifetime friends.

Don’t Worry
Your eyes told a story that I didn’t want to hear.
I bowed my head so you wouldn’t see me shed a tear.
I saw the angels circling all around you.
I knew they were waiting to guide you through.

As I held your hand and began to pray,
I asked the Lord to take all of your pain away.
Even though I did not want to say goodbye,
I knew He had heard your humble cry.

You are now safely in your Father’s care.
I can just see you smiling when you saw Him standing there.
I’m sure He said don’t worry. Your family is going to be okay.
I am here to take all of your burdens away.

We promised to never let go of each other’s hand.
Though these tears won’t stop falling, I am doing my best to understand.
Farewell Dear Connie. Enjoy your new home.
He kept His promise. You never walked alone.
