Carol Ann Schwartz

December 19, 1942 — October 28, 2023

Carol Ann Schwartz died peacefully on October 28, 2023, at the age of 80.

Carol was born on December 19, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Russel and Dolores Dunholter. She graduated from Hughes High School where she was an accomplished drum majorette.

She married Robert “Bob” Schwartz after meeting him at an art happening organized by her brother Lee. They married at Cambridge City Hall in Massachusetts in 1967. After living in Boston and briefly in Israel, they settled in Washington D.C., where they eventually welcomed two daughters, Sarah and Joanna, into their family.

Carol’s career accomplishments ranged and included such things as working at bookings in public radio in Boston, running her own plant shop called “Plants in Particular,” managing the home and children’s activities, managing the finances for both Bob’s architectural firm, Schwartz and Associates, as well as a local independent movie theater.

Carol was often found reading books or working on Sunday New York Times crossword puzzles, at which her skills were unmatched. She was passionate about nature and loved trees, gardens, birds, and dogs. She had a contagious wonderful laugh and was the life of the party. Carol and her husband enjoyed traveling and visited a total of 26 countries together. Later in life, she enjoyed walking hand in hand with her husband on the trail behind their home where people would grin widely and remark, “What a cute couple.”

Carol will be missed by her husband, Bob Schwartz; children, Sarah Maleki (Meade Maleki) and Joanna Schwartz (Joshua Carlson); brother, Lee Dunholter (Soosen Dunholter); brother-in-law Tom Schwartz (Sylvia Schwartz); sister-in-law Wendy Schwartz and grandchildren, Emery and Pilar Maleki.

A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The National Audobon Society at https://www.audubon.org in Carol’s memory.
